The Patrol Division is comprised of patrol officers, Traffic Unit, IMPACT Officer, Bike Officers and Drone Operators. Together, these components form the operational backbone of the department. The core function of the Patrol Division is to protect and serve our community through proactive enforcement, visible presence, and meaningful engagement.
To accomplish this mission, division personnel are tasked with upholding state and local laws by arresting violators, conducting thorough investigations, serving warrants, and identifying emerging crime patterns and trends. Patrol officers are often the first responders to incidents, and their initial actions frequently set the tone for successful case resolution. These responsibilities are carried out in close partnership with residents, business owners, community groups, and other key stakeholders to ensure a coordinated and community-focused approach to public safety.
A critical aspect of the patrol function also includes responding to emergency medical calls, securing and investigating motor vehicle crashes, managing hazardous or high-risk situations, and maintaining order during critical incidents. Patrol personnel regularly assist other emergency service agencies and provide immediate lifesaving interventions when necessary.
Community engagement remains a cornerstone of our policing philosophy. Beyond enforcement, officers actively participate in outreach initiatives, school programs, neighborhood events and community meetings, to build trust and maintain open lines of communication. These interactions not only strengthen community confidence but also encourage collaborative problem-solving and shared responsibility for public safety.
Officers are assigned designated patrol areas which allows them to develop familiarity with the neighborhoods they serve. This structure fosters accountability, strengthens community relationships, and enhances problem-solving efforts. By knowing the people who live and work in their assigned areas, as well as identifying recurring problem locations, officers are better equipped to address concerns proactively rather than reactively. They routinely meet with neighborhood watch groups, property managers, business owners, and school administrators to identify specific issues and collaborate on practical, long-term solutions.
These duties are performed daily, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Through consistent presence, professional service, and strong community partnerships, the Patrol Division works continuously to fulfill the department’s mission and uphold the safety and quality of life within our township.
