Winter / Snow Removal

PUBLIC WORKS – SNOW REMOVAL GUIDELINES
The Township of Hamilton has more than 300 lane miles to plow during snow events.
Depending on the duration and amount of snowfall, township trucks and/or contractors may have to plow your street several times. As snow rolls off the plows, it will accumulate at driveway aprons.
Please understand that this is unavoidable, and it is the homeowner's responsibility to clear it.
Please see the following helpful tips to help during a snow event.

Place Trash & Recycling carts at the curb line for pickup,
Be sure to remove them ASAP afterward, to prevent damage to them.
Shovel snow to the right side of your driveway (facing the street) to minimize the amount of snow entering your driveway apron.

Shovel and/or blow snow onto the curb or the grass, not into the street. This creates hazardous ice spots, that could impact you while exiting the driveways into the roadways.

Parking vehicles on the street hinders the speed of removal and also causes vehicles to be plowed in.

Not all roads in the Township of Hamilton are maintained by the Department of Public Works. During weather events, we often receive many calls from our residents about the condition of roads whose maintenance is the responsibility of Atlantic County or NJ State Department of Transportation. We're happy to relay your concerns, but if you would like to reach the Atlantic County Public Works Department directly, please call (609) 645-5830, NJ State DOT, please call (609)588-6213. The ACUA has started to introduce automated side load trucks to their fleet and are being used here in Hamilton Township for trash collection.  Nothing will change with your scheduled collection day; however, this could mean that your bulk items may not be collected by the same truck that picks up your cart.  In an effort to be more efficient the drivers are reporting bulk at the residence and a different truck will collect the bulk.  Most bulk will still be collected the same day as your trash, some may be picked up the following morning.  We ask that you please keep your trash and recycling carts a minimum of 3 feet apart, so the electronic arm has enough room to pick up the carts properly.  Also, please do not lean your bulk items against the carts, they too should be separate.

This only applies to those that have trash carts, if your community uses dumpsters this will not apply to you.

For more information on trash and recycling please visit our website at www.hamiltonatlnj.gov under the public works tab.  If you have questions, please call our office at 609-625-6311.
