Safe Exchange

The Township of Hamilton Police Department has received multiple reports from the community pertaining to a Facebook scam involving the sale of a motor vehicle.  We encourage all residents to use the Municipal parking lot (behind our main building) located at 6101 13^th Street, Mays Landing, as we have a designated “Safe Exchange Zone”, for public use when purchasing something through any social media platform.  Utilizing a safe exchange location is a good way to deter nefarious sellers.  Here are some additional safety tips if you’re buying or selling anything through social media:  

1. Meet in a well-lit area. 
2. Never go to a meeting alone. 
3. Share the meeting plan with friends or relatives before you go.  
4. Never meet at your home.  
5. Consider using a secure person-to-person payment method instead of paying cash.  
6. If you’re considering purchasing a vehicle, ask for the vehicle identification information and run a CarFax report before exchanging money.
